BAG IT UP

The simplest way you can protect your board is to buy a padded board bag which will prevent most of the dings and cracks that occur. Even though most of the people we know display their boards at home, if you want your board in perfect condition leave it in the bag.

Stop by and check out our full selection of surf board bags. We’ve got everything from day bags to travel bags for both short and long boards. Let us know before you leave for your trip and we can custom order a bag if you’re looking for something specific.

BE AWARE

It takes a slight wind or a clumsy friend to knock down your board in a matter of seconds. Be aware of where you leave your board and what you lean your board against. Everyone learns this lesson the hard way even though it’s something so easy to prevent.

FreeRide has great wooden multi-board racks which you can use to hang up your surf boards, snow boards and wake boards. Out of hands reach is the best preventative measure to avoiding unnecessary damage.

SUN DAMAGE

If you want to avoid having your new white board turn into a faded yellow board you must keep it out of the sun when you’re not in the water. The UV rays will cause a discoloring and slowly break down the fiberglass coating which will cause the board to become very week.

Make sure to bring your board inside whenever possible. If you’re going on a road trip put your board in a protective bag so it doesn’t bake in the sun. If your board gets too hot you might end up dealing with delamination.

Overall, to prevent discoloration and delamination keep your board in a cool, dry, safe place in the shade or indoors.

FIX IT OR LOSE IT

Just like most things in life, if you take care of the problem right away it will save you a lot in the long run. The most minor ding could ruin your board if not fixed in a reasonable amount of time.

Water will cause the same delamination and yellowing issues the sun’s UV rays do to your board. This is caused by the leaking of water into the inner core of foam. In addition, water will weigh down your board which is the number one cause of performance loss.

Keep in mind a lot of dings and cracks hide under the surface of your wax so take a minute you strip down the old layer and check it out frequently.

FreeRide carries a all types of ding repair kits for both fiberglass and epoxy boards. If the job is too much to handle just drop it off and we’ll give you a quote on the repair so you can get back in the water.
